The tourists enjoy the benefits gathered in the Convention on the subject of Customs Facilities for the Tourism of which Cuba is part. Besides the clothes and other new or used articles that a tourist reasonably can need for personal use, will be considered, also as belongings (exempt of the payment of rights), anyone of the following articles, on condition that they are in use and with the obligation that the tourist will take them back to his/her country, because these articles are admitted only as temporary import.

  • personal jewels
  • a photographic camera with twelve badges or five movie rolls
  • a film camera of small mm with two movie rolls
  • binoculars
  • a portable music instrument
  • a portable gramophone with ten disks
  • a portable sound recorder
  • a portable radio receiver
  • a portable television receiver
  • a portable typewriter
  • boy's car
  • a campaign house and the equipment to camp
  • articles for sports (a gear for the fishing, a bicycle without motor, a canoe or kayac of less than 5,50 meters long, a couple of ski, two tennis rackets, and other similar articles)
  • a video camera
  • a personal PC
  • a portable DVD
  • Personal devices that allow to extract or to introduce information in the personal computers and they are portable, such as: Flash Memory, MP3, MP4, IPOD, calendar book, PALM and similar.

The previous facilities and exemptions won't be granted in cases of tourists who enter to Cuba more than once a month, or younger than ten years. The entrance to the country by passengers of walkie talkie, GPS and cellular telephones of communications through satellite are not admitted.

Prohibitions

The passenger can not carry, neither to the entrance nor the exit:

  • Drugs, narcotics and psychotropic substances or hallucinogenic, except for those of medical use accompanied by the corresponding medical prescription.
  • Explosives.
  • Fire weapons and ammunition, unless they have expressed authorization of the Competent Organism.
  • Hemoderivatives.
  • Species protected by the Convention on the International Fauna and Flora Trade of Threatened Species, if it doesn't possess the Permission sent by the Competent Authority (CITES Permission).

Prohibitions to the Import (Entrance):

The following electric equipment:

  • Freezers with more than 7 feet capacity
  • air conditioning
  • cookers and burners ( including resistances)
  • ovens and microwaves
  • showers
  • fryiers
  • water heaters
  • irons whose consumption exceeds 290 wats/hour without dewed, or 703 wats/hour with dewed and vapor
  • bread toasters.

Regarding the Tobaccos:

The export of until 50 tobacco units, loose or in containers, is authorized without presenting shop document.

If You plan to export bent tobacco above that quantity (50 units) you must show original and copy invoice of the store where You acquired them, giving the copy to the customs authorities on the country exit port.

The bent tobaccos must be in original containers, with the official qualifications, including the new holographic stamp.

If the product doesn't fulfill the essential requirement of licit acquisition, it will be confiscated by the Customs.

Articles and Products Subject to Requirements for their Entrance to the country. These articles require License or Previous Permission of the Computer Science and Communications Ministry:

  • Wireless fax equipment
  • phone slates
  • devices for data nets
  • wireless telephones except those that operate in the bands of 40–49 MHz, 2,4 GHz and 5 GHz
  • radio transmitters
  • radio TxRx, including walkie-talkie
  • professional radio receivers
  • terrestrial stations and terminals of satellite communication, including parabolic antennas and satellite cell phones.

Require Previous Permission of the National Office of Hydrography and Geodesy:

  • Systems of Positioning through Satellite (GPS), of any type.

They will be subject to the Inspection and Authorization of the Veterinary and Phytosanitary Authorities:

  • Live animals
  • plants and their parts
  • products of animal and vegetable origin (elaborated or not).
To the export (Exit): You won't be able to take with You:
  • More than three units of national production medication, except for those dedicated to the continuity of treatments, according with the time of treatment duration and accompanied by the Certification of the Health Center. In the case that the passenger doesn't reside permanently in Cuba, the corresponding Official Invoice.
  • Patrimonial works or with museum value, books, pamphlets and serial publications with more than 50 years published, as well as Cuban Books of Editions “R” if it doesn't possess the Certificate of Export of the Cultural Goods Registration.
  • Cuban Bent tobacco in superior quantity to 50 units if it doesn't present the Official Invoice of the store where the purchase was made.
  • Lobster (tail with frozen shell) without Invoice that credits its licit acquisition in the authorized stores.
  • Cash in superior quantity to $5000,00 USD or its equivalent in other currencies that has not been declared to the entrance or that doesn't have the corresponding authorization of the Bank.
  • More than 100 Pesos National Currency (CUP), neither more than 200 Convertible Cuban Pesos (CUC).
  • Hand written books; incunabular (books comprehended between 1440 and 1500); books, pamphlets and serial foreign publications printed from XVI century to the XVIII (1501 to 1800); books, pamphlets and serial publications, published in Cuba in the XVIII century; books and pamphlets that have the stamp of libraries belonging to the National System of Public Libraries or other systems of information, as well as of organisms and Cuban institutions: THEY ARE NOT EXPORTABLE.
  • Pieces and collections with numismatic value if it doesn't present the Authorization of the Numismatic Museum or of the Central Bank of Cuba.

If you acquire fresh paintings and sculptures in the sale points where they are offered, make sure that they have the Stamp that authorizes the export, or request the corresponding Permission, indispensable requirement for extraction of the country.
